1. Evaluation Purpose

Norwegian Church Aid (NCA) seeks to conduct an external evaluation of the psychosocial program implemented by NCA in cooperation with ACT alliance members and their partner organisations during 2009-2011 as a response to the war on Gaza in December-February 2009. The psychosocial programme was implemented by NCA in cooperation with resource persons in Church of Sweden (CoS) and FinChurchAid (FCA) and with ACT alliance partners.

The purpose of conducting and external evaluation is to document results, and if possible to assess the impact of more than three years of activities. We seek to learn from this experience and will use findings and recommendations in future programming.

Candidates should have a Masters degree, fluent written and spoken English, a proven interest in refugee, humanitarian and migration issues and be able to commit at least three months to the internship.

The intern will be expected to contribute to a range of policy development and evaluation projects, to undertake editorial tasks and to prepare a paper on a subject of their choice for publication in the series ‘New Issues in Refugee Research’.

LENGTH OF CONSULTANCY: Four weeks

PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Mercy Corps is an international development organization that works in countries in transition, where communities are recovering from disaster, conflict, or economic collapse. The project goal is to provide immediate psycho-social support to 3,387 children (2,633 girls, 754 boys) in four identified schools affected by the ongoing political crisis in Sana’a. The project will provide essential child protection services to address urgent psycho-social needs, as well as build a longer-term mechanism to support child and adolescent mental health to ensure conflict-affected populations have access to and use gender-sensitive prevention information, skills, and services. The project will address a critical gap currently unfulfilled within the humanitarian response in Yemen. Currently, these conflict-affected schools do not have the necessary support to create child and adolescent-friendly recreational spaces or counseling to address their needs.
