Kampala — Bad weather and lack of on-the-ground data are restricting the relief response to the 1 March landslide that is believed to have killed hundreds of people in eastern Uganda.
The areas are inaccessible, and the use of rudimentary tools is slowing down the rescue operation in Bududa, where 88 bodies have been recovered and an estimated 300 others are still missing. allAfrica.com

The death toll following Tuesday’s sporadic bolts of lightning, which struck three different locations around the country, has climbed from 18 to 21, with the government admitting that there was little it could do to prevent the devastation.

At least 1,200 people were moved to Bugitimwa Primary School in Sironko District as authorities made the first steps to relocate some 3,700 residents of mudslide-prone areas in the vicinity of Mt. Elgon.
