An interagency-meeting on Child Participation took place on 16 September in the office of Miyagi Prefecture. Present were representatives from the Miyagi Prefecture, Mrs. Kobayashi, coordinator of local NGOs, representatives from Plan Japan, Save the Children, UNICEF, World Vision, Japan Platform, Action against Child Exploitation, and a local artist, Mr Shinichiro Niita.

Several organisations explained their activities related to Child Participation. Save the Children has carried out a questionnaire amongst 10.000 children on their views on the rebuilding their communities. Around 90 % of the children indicated that they would like to be involved in the reconstruction.

A Japanese artist has worked with children to make a newspaper on their views on reconstruction. UNICEF has facilitated several workshops with children on reconstruction.

During the summer holidays Plan Japan facilitated a child-media photo project together with primary school children and a child-media video project together with lower secondary school students. The photo project resulted in an exhibition in Tokyo where the children proudly presented their work. The media project was covered by CNN News, please see also http://edition.cnn.com/video/#/video/world/2011/09/12/japan-kids-photos.cnn?iref=allsearch
