The United Nations Emergency Relief Coordinator has appointed Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General Mr. Georg Charpentier as Humanitarian Coordinator for international relief efforts in Libya. Mr. Charpentier was previously the DSRSG/HC/RC in Sudan and Cote d’Ivoire, as well as Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative in several countries. As UN Humanitarian Coordinator he will coordinate international humanitarian activities of UN agencies and partners to support Libyan civilians affected by recent and on-going conflicts, working to ensure an end to these humanitarian needs in Libya as the country focuses on longer development and recovery programmes. He will work closely with Libyan authorities to ensure this effective transition of UN programmes from relief to recovery.
