Hi Amanda, I found ’Basic Counselling Skills’: A Helper’s Manual (2nd edition) by Richard Nelson-Jones quite helpful. @Ananda, wouldn’t Gus’s book be helpful as well (sorry can’t remember the exact title)?
Amanda, Guus van der Veer has some very good training materials & approaches that we’ve found applicable across a range of contexts in Sri Lanka. They do require resourceful and experienced trainers though, since the training approach is very responsive to trainees’ skill level and case load. Will post some links below to e-materials. There is also a manual from Pharos foundation (you have to order this from them online). The new manual builds on the same material, but is of course an improvement. Will get back to you on this.
